As we near the end of November, our focus shifts to two key areas that profoundly impact a child’s confidence and ability to connect with others: language development and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL).

Linguistic Diversity is a Superpower

If your child is growing up in a bilingual or multilingual home, you are giving them a wonderful advantage! Every language they speak strengthens their cognitive abilities, problem-solving skills, and cultural awareness.

In the Classroom: We are committed to celebrating linguistic diversity. Hearing and using different languages is a benefit for all children. We encourage children to share words in their home language and view their diverse communication skills as an asset.

Simple Steps for Social-Emotional Regulation

SEL is about teaching children how to manage their emotions, understand others' feelings, and build positive relationships. In the classroom, this is supported through our lessons in Grace and Courtesy.

SEL at Home:

  • Label Feelings: Help your child name what they are feeling. "I see you are frustrated because that tower fell down." Labeling a feeling helps them understand that emotions are normal, not something to fear.

  • Offer a Safe Spot: Designate a comfortable corner (a "cozy spot" or "peace corner") where your child can go when they need to regulate their emotions. This teaches self-regulation without feeling punished.

  • Model It: The best way to teach regulation is to show it. When you feel stressed, tell your child (in simple terms) what you are doing to calm yourself down. "I'm going to take three deep breaths because I feel a little overwhelmed right now."

Thank you for partnering with us to support your child’s whole development this month!
